Office Space for Lease in one of America's Best Performing Cities
December 16, 2013
According to a recent report from the Houston Business Journal, Houston has again made Milken Institute's Best Performing Cities of 2013, taking the number 8 spot on the list of 200 large cities around the nation. Oil and gas exploration took the Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown metropolitan statistical area to seventh place in the nation for five-year job growth, with mining support and oil extraction creating 11,000 new jobs in 2011-2012. Big gains were also seen, the report stated, in the professional and scientific services industries, with over 10,500 jobs created.
The Milken Institute doesn't base its rankings on quality-of-life metrics, but rather on where jobs are being created and sustained according to job, wage and salary and technology growth. Houston was one of seven Texas cities to make the top 25 on the Milken Institute's list of top performing cities. According to the Institute, in most years, these factors give a good indication of the underlying structural performance of regional economics.
