Office Space for Lease: State's Professional and Business Services Industry Grows
August 29, 2014
The Texas Workforce Commission recently released employment numbers for July, showing that unemployment in both the state and the Houston area remain below the national average. But the 5.1 and 5.5 percent unemployment rates, statewide and in the Houston - Sugar Land - Bayton metropolitan statistical area respectively, don't tell the complete story.
All major industries in the state expanded over the month of July. Eight of eleven industries have grown in the past year by 3 percent or more, including Professional and Business Services, Mining and Logging, Trade, Transportation, and Utilities, and Construction, the commission reported.
One industry, Professional and Business Services, added 10,600 jobs in the month of July. Labor representative, Ronny Congleton, of the Texas Workforce Commission stated that the industry in the state is thriving, offering every kind of service from landscaping to legal advice. Over the year, more than 72,000 jobs have been added in the industry, for an annual growth rate of 5 percent.
