Got Retail Space? Get Landlord Representation Too.
March 10, 2015
To those with retail space for lease in the Houston area: it could be your lucky year. According to a recent article from the Houston Business Journal, Houston's grocery store wars aren't expected to end any time soon. In fact, the article reports that 32 grocery store chains are planning to open Houston locations. In fact, nearly half of the Houston retail space expected to be built this year -- which totals about 3.7 million square feet -- is intended for grocery stores.
One of the chains that is growing Houston's grocery store market is Sprouts, which opened four stores in the area in 2013, and is just about to open its fifth store here. Another Houston location is also planned for this year. H-E-B Grocery Co., based in San Antonio, is planning to open seven new Houston locations.
It isn't just new commercial space that is seeing an increased interest from businesses looking to expand or to start up in the region, either, nor are grocery stores the only portion of the retail sector that is seeing a lot of area activity. Lower gas prices mean a bit more cash in many people's pockets, which often equates to more retail spending.
